Carolyn Soemarjono is the founder of The Boudoir Photographer, Singapore’s first ever photography studio dedicated to boudoir photography. She grew up in Dubbo, Australia and at the age of sixteen, was living in an apartment by herself and working at a clothing store. She picked up new skills along the way over the years and even went to night school, eventually completing a course in accounting. This gave her the opportunity she needed to earn a position as an accounting clerk with Unilever. After moving to Sydney, she managed to get a job at Procter & Gamble, which kick-started her 20-year career in the corporate world.
At the age of 42, Carolyn was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011. She spent more than a year in treatment and recovery, and is currently in remission. Her battle with cancer spurred her to leave the corporate world behind to pursue her true passion in life, photography. Starting with a family photography business, she eventually had enough success to be able to delve into what she truly loved, boudoir photography. Through this, Carolyn hopes to help women to rediscover their self-confidence and feel good about their bodies.
