Singapore Paralympic gold medalist swimmer Yip Pin Xiu’s amazing story
Yip Pin Xiu was born with Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder that slowly breaks down the muscles. When she was five, she started swimming to improve her health and strengthen her muscles. Nevertheless, by the age of eleven, she had lost her ability to walk and had to use a wheelchair.

Despite this, she won Singapore’s first ever Olympic gold medal, is a three-time Paralympic gold medallist, an international gold medallist and has set two world records in the 50-metre and 100-metre backstroke finals.
