Growing up in a humble background, Joyce Lye watched her adoptive father treat patients with traditional Chinese medicine, often for free. From there, she learned about being kind and compassionate, as well as the virtues of leading a healthy lifestyle.

After his passing, Joyce put herself through school and worked hard in her career. Along with a few friends, she co-founded Kampung Senang in Singapore, based on the values imparted to her by her adoptive father. Kampung Senang started out as a day activities centre to teach senior citizens about healthy living. They have since grown into six centres providing various services, including a neurotherapy centre and a wheelchair repair and training centre.
