Meet Goh Beng Choo, a mulitalented literary translator who epitomises what it truly means to be a lifelong learner. Her previous career as a journalist at the bilingual section of The Straits Times fostered in her a keen interest in languages and also provided her with a myriad of opportunities to learn more about Chinese literature and art.
Having mastered both English and Chinese, Beng Choo has went on to translate her husband, Cultural Medallion winner and Singaporean novelist, Yeng Pway Ngon’s books into English. Despite having retired years ago, she has never let her age stop her from pursuing her passions in life. She continues to be an avid learner, driven by an innate curiousity to find out more about the various cultures, as well as individuals, that she has encountered thus far. Her love for the arts extends well beyond the realm of Chinese culture to Indian Carnatic music and even Italian opera, both of which she actively pursues as a student. A lady with a vibrant personality, Beng Choo’s vigour for life is truly admirable and serves to inspire the rest of us to live our lives to the fullest!
